The SullivanArc Foundation is a 501-(c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in Sullivan County NY. It was originally formed in 2010 as the fundraising arm of SullivanArc - who supplies supports and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. SullivanArc was founded in 1949 by a group of concerned parents in New York City who had no educational and social alternatives for their mentally retarded children. Sullivan County was one of the first four chapters formed, along with Westchester, Long Island and New York City. There are now 52 chapters across New York State. Ruth Bennett, a strong and inspirational woman, was our chapter’s founder. We are now known as The Arc Sullivan-Orange Counties, NY.
Today, the children have grown up, and the name has been altered to The Arc. The “children” are now “citizens” and as the term “retarded” falls out of favor in a world of political correctness. At this time, we serve over 1,100 people in 21 family style homes, apartments, day services, clinical services, recreation, respite services, and much, much more.
In January 2019 we will unify with our neighboring Arc - the Arc of Orange County - to become the Arc Sullivan-Orange Counties. We are a chapter of The Arc New York and the Arc of the US - the largest non profit that advocates for people with developmental disabilities.
